After completing this course, the participant will be able to: 1. Define the concept of dual diagnosis 2. Explain the relationship between alcohol and other drug use and psychiatric symptoms 3. Distinguish between AOD and mental health treatment systems 4. Describe the major psychiatric illnesses associated with AOD 5. List the major psychiatric medications and their effects on recovery 6. Identify the elements of an effective dual diagnosis treatment system APPROVALS: NAADAC, CAADAC, Califonnia BRN, Califonria BBSE, Florida Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counselors and CBAPF. Accepted in Texas for Social Workers and LCDC renewal, subject to limitations. Other approvals pending.
